Departure from SG

For the second time, I'm leaving the country for a place that I've never been to before, and to lead a different life there for a year. However, I wasn't as apprehensive towards the future as I was this round. Probably I had prior experience, and I did turn out making new friends and having more happy memories than not, so was in a way looking forward to the challenge. ^_^

However, when I got up the plane and saw my seat, I checked my ticket twice, hoping that I had seen the wrong number, but to avail, I was just lying to myself. Was arranged to sit beside a middle-aged man for the 18 hour long flight. When you have to sit in an economy seat for 18 hours, trust me, you would prefer to be with someone of the same sex, at least it wouldn't be so awful if you drool over that person in your deep slumber or when the person tries to get out to go to the toilet.

Anyway, found out that the man was from Bangladesh and he had been working in the US for 12 years as a financial consultant. Sounded like he was doing really well there. Highlight of the flight came when he asked (towards the end of the flight, thank goodness) whether I had a boyfriend and started commenting I was pretty after I said no... To spice things up, he said he met his future wife today (when he actually left Bangladesh the day before) Felt really uncomfortable so I pretended to sleep for the rest of the flight. *shiver*

Well, at least I met another lady at the lounge of the plane - Anna Leong, sales manager from IBM. Gained quite a bit of insight from her during the 1 hour talk. Coincidentally, she did her MBA at Uni of Warwick, and she too, had did a lot of travelling and exchange programme during her university years. Gave me her name card at the customs, think that's really nice of her. Hopefully we'll be able to keep in touch once in a while =)

Think the tipping culture is really strong here. The taxi from airport to Holiday Inn was supposed to cost $17, I gave the driver a $20 note, and waited for the change, yet to see him driving off... *ouch* that's $3 of tip for carrying my suitcases in and out of the boot
