Drained...

For the past week, I've been sleeping less than 5 hours a day cumulatively, and had to take my dosages of coffee when the hour has come. So tired... But it hadn't been so bad until today. Suddenly felt very stressed. It's a different kind of stress from the kind I had during my A level Economics paper. The one I had last time was more of having a panic attack. But this time round, it feels more like I'm being shrouded by a heavy fog.

I really enjoy studying marketing. The textbooks are very colourful, with a lot of extensive examples of advertisements, alot of tactics when it comes to selling and promotion; they also mention about customer services and all. It's really very interesting, with a lot of real world applications.

But the problem comes to me only today, when I had a group meeting with my Market Communications presentation group. The issue here is to act as Chico's, an upscale female clothing company, and address the marketing problems we feel are significant. When they talk about the kind of magazines we should use to target the potential customers, they talk about Red Book, House and Gardening; I only know about 8 Days and i Weekly. When they talk about potential competitors like Ann Taylor and Talbot; I only know about Zara, Mango, Giordano and Baleno. Yeah, it's pretty obvious that I haven't been embracing the American culture enough. Actually, it's doing them an unjustice to generalize them under "the American culture" - like us Singaporeans, we don't have a single culture that represents us like a glove, there are alot of facets to the term "culture".

It's not like if I study harder, I'll know more about how to think like an American, how to reach out for an American consumer and such. And every individual is different; so it doesn't mean that I've got one close American friend, I'll know everything about how Americans are like. Similarly, for every country, every city. Getting worried about my internship in Taiwan. That's not too bad, I think it's a learning experience. How about when I start working? I would be stuck in the middle of nowhere - no idea about the marketing environment anywhere, lost touch with Singapore's market as well... Sigh... Jia lat... How can...

So tired... See how la... *sigh*

hey girl.. I know what you mean and understand how you feel. I had similar problems with my major too. Only till recently, I started reading widely, our local The Straits Time, The Business Times, and other magazines hanging around in the library. It helps I guess. =) Probably you can try that too. Pick up something American and read. Hee... Just my thoughts..
