"East Meets East" & One World Week Party

Been quite an eventful week! Had "East Meets East" dinner on Wednesday night with my ethnically Indian flatmates Ama (British Indian) and Komal (Nigerian Indian), with the accompaniment of Celebrity Big Brother and Desperate Housewives Season 2 debut. Ama made lamb patties, paneer (Indian cheese) and chicken masala, while Cheryl and I made pineapple rice, kailan, bittergourd with egg and tofu.

Our spread of dishes (note: dinner for 4 *ahem*) - from left: Paneer, tofu, chicken masala, poppadum with mango chutney and cucumber dips, below: lamb patties, kailan, bittergourd with egg and pineapple rice. Really had a good time!! Forgot to take a group picture though *sigh*

A picture of a tawa, the Indian pan for chapatti, reminds me of Village By the Sea, my secondary literature textbook. Something we'll never find in a Chinese kitchen. *winks* Really fascinating...

Just came back from One World Week Party. Remember during my first year, we cooked chicken rice and was the first stall that sold out what we had! *winks at Elly* Wanted to go for the buffet, but there was such a long line, so Jyh Shyong and I decided to go Noodle Bar at Coventry City Centre at spur of the moment. Met up with the others when we got back to go for the party. There was a whole range of performances that lasted for 2 hours from the various cultural societies: from Asia (China, Malaysia, Japan to name a few), Europe, Africa, South America and all. I guess this is the time when you really embrace the multinational culture in school - watching the Japanese do their Fisherman Dance, the Cypriots do their folk dance and acknowledging that dancing is really within the genes of Africans. A picture to show how many people there were at the union - about 1800 tickets were sold for the night.

Though we didn't get good view of the stage, it's still pretty much an eye opener:

Fisherman Dance by the Japanese Society - it's really a very physically challenging dance, especially for the girls, because you have to exert force with every movement, as though you've got an invisible fish net filled with fish, haha~!

Jyh Shyong and I - my jie mei cum drinking buddy in Warwick! *oops*

Agnes, Jireh and I - Had to get them to stand by my sides to cover up my thick arms! *thank u thank u*

Time for bed now. Good nite!
