Update of my life

Before everyone starts wondering if this blog is ever going to be updated again, I better start posting something. Last week was Thanksgiving week, went to Canada on a road trip with some seniors and friends, before that I had been rushing my assignments and mugging for my mid-term exams, so as to make the break a well-deserved on. Just a brief description about the trip and some highlights:

1) There were 10 of us on this trip: 5 freshmen - me (yeah, I'm considered a freshman!), Yee Lin, Bernard, Jermyn and Helmi; 5 seniors - Torance, Vincent, Dennis, Wuisiew and Shan Qing. We rented a van, and there were 5 drivers: Helmi, Jermyn, Torance, Dennis and Shan Qing (main driver) who rotated among themselves for the 18 hour drive up to the city of Montreal in Canada. For the rest of the non-drivers (btw, I decided not to drive so as not to jeopardize their lives *touchwood*) we took turns as navigators: sitting beside the driver, read the map and also to talk to the driver so as to prevent them from falling asleep.

2) The city of Montreal is pretty much a city that has European influence, namely the English and French; and there's 2 main districts that we went: downtown Montreal and Old Montreal. Probably 'cos we've been away from the urban areas for like 13 weeks (since I last went to Chicago), it felt so good to see the neon lights and modernised buildings again. Also, we went for dim sum the first morning, and was soooo happy, hee hee~ By the way, we (the girls) overslept for the first morning 'cos we didn't know how to use the alarm clock, and it became a joke for the rest of the week, mainly 'cos we said that we would definitely wake up early and want to walk around without the guys. When Helmi came to knock our door, Yee Lin opened and he said,"I can smell that they've just woke up." My god... *paiseh*

3) At Old Montreal on the second day of tour, we noticed that the architecture was quite interesting. They have alot of those outdoor stairs like those we see on TV and the back of the alley that kind. But they made it such that the last flight is like a lever parallel to the ground, probably to prevent burglary. So I guess when the owners return home, they'll activate through the remote control or something to get it down so as to enter the house. We saw this particular one which was quite low, and SQ jumped and managed to catch the end of the stairs. As we saw the stairs gradually moving down, bulking under SQ's weight, suddenly the alarm was triggered. Being the slow reaction one, I saw everyone else running away before I knew what happened. It was funny; for the rest of the day we're in jitters whenever we saw any police car past by. =P

4) Later we went to the city of Toronto. Realised we keep going to every city's Chinatown. Here we had char siew rice, roast pork rice, soya chicken rice and fried noodles. And our dear seniors bought dried shrimps and ikan bilis (all the way from Canada!) back. Luckily they were tightly sealed, or the van would reek of all those stuffs. Hee hee~ Oh ya, and wuisiew, knowing that Yee Lin and I like red bean buns, ran down to a dim sum shop to buy it for us. Also we managed to eat desserts like bobo chacha, and tau suan (though not as good as home's) in Chinatown. Did I mention we saw our first glimpse of snow in the US then? It was raining flurries. So touched when Wuisiew ran down in that weather to get us something we like. *sob*

5) At night we went to the gay town, and it was really quite sleazy, so we kept close to one another. There was this point when suddenly I heard someone 'meowed' very loudly into my ears, and next thing I knew, Dennis pulled me away, and SQ was shouting,"Sluts! Bitches" behind. Apparently I got harrassed without knowing (hai hai~ slow reaction) Somehow as a group of Singaporeans, we never let go any opportunity of eating food that aroused our curiosity. Despite the earlier incident, everyone were still very much interested in the hot dog stall nearby, and we actually spent 20 minutes there waiting for one another to get their orders. Haha~ But it was worth the wait, the food was good, esp in the cold. =P

6) The next day we proceeded to Niagara Falls, it was night time when we reached, and the falls were lit by neon lights from the back. It was beautiful, period. I think that's probably the highlight of the week (until we went shopping the next next day, will talk about it in a while). It was also the first night when we did some 'bonding' together, haha~ What does that sound like? *gross* 'Cos throughout the trip we all went back to our rooms after coming back every night 'cos we were exhausted - and Torance decided that we should get to know each other better before leaving. Yep, so we chit chatted in the room for a while before Torance and Shanqing succumbed to the effects of the flu medicine.

7) The next morning, we were greeted by white patches of snow on the grass when we stepped out of our room. It was also the first time I had an actual snowball fight. Started with Shanqing wanted to throw at Bernard, but that dumbo dodged and I happened to be behind him. Weh weh, my first snowball fight actually started with me getting hit even without throwing once!!!

8) We splitted as half the group wanted to go to the wineries while the other half wanted to walk around the area - Niagara Falls was surrounded by a lot of tourist attractions in a town-like setting: Planet Hollywood, Ripley's Believe it or not, Guiness Book of Records, Haunted Houses etc. So Yee Lin, Helmi, Bernard and I jalan jalan while throwing snowballs at one another, taking photos and running in the cold. Throughout the trip we had to consciously block out the thought of mid term exams and assignments that were due in the coming week, but it was worth it =P

9) Ultimate highlight of the week: We went to a shopping outlet on Black Friday, the Friday after Thanksgiving. I actually spent USD$180, if it's of any consolation, the last time I shopped was 13 weeks ago. Bought a pair of jeans from Calvin Klein for USD$38 (SGD$70), a pair of boots from Sketchers for USD$36, amongst other great buys. Before u're aghast over my shopping habits - I'm not the ultimate shopper of the day k! Shan't say who =P But imagine our shopping bags filled half the backseat of the van, right to the brim.

So anyway, that's about it. Of course if I were to go into details of the trip, it'll probably bore everyone to tears. All these are enough to guess that I've got a real good trip rite? Hee hee... Ah well, anyway I've got 1 more project, 1 essay to edit, and my last mid term exam next wednesday. My final exams start and end 13th Dec: 3 papers - 8 to 11 am, 1 to 4 pm, and 7 to 10pm. *sob* But the good news is, I'm leaving on 14th to Vancouver, to meet Gina's sister, Elsa. Gina's my house maid for the past 10 years, and she's like family to me. Then will return on 18th to Chicago to join Yee Lin and the others to go California from 19th to after New Year. Will be flying off on 1st Jan to Taiwan to find my parents, and return to the US on 8th Jan. Not sure what's going to happen next though - school starts on 18th Jan. Will see how it goes lah. Alright, time to get back to the books. Tata to all~
